Over the past two decades, Michael Barber has successfully carved out a unique career as a boundary blurring visual artist. Working in both the fine art and commercial art world, Michael’s work tells stories with impact. Whether unique illustrations, large collaborative social projects, or hand pulled art, Michael Barber’s award-winning work has enhanced communities, collections and causes all over North America.
I have just always drawn since I was able to hold a pencil. After high school I was part of artist's community in Hamilton where Learned to paint in oil. In 1979 I graduated from the University of Guelph with a BA(Fine Art) and taught art and showed in the area and won a number of awards. I then moved to Philadelphia and had the interest of the Benjamin Mangel Gallery. In 1985 I was with The Del Bello Gallery in Toronto. My last show was At the Lynedoch Art Centre In June 2019. I was contracted to show my graphite drawings and the accompanying self-published book of the drawings at the Norfolk Art Centre March 7-May 2, 2020.

I have been painting for over 20 years and am a self taught artist. I have had many solo shows and participated in many art events/sales over the years all across Haldimand and Norfolk. The last show I had was at the Old Town Hall in Waterford, "the Norfolk Stamp Collections and "Branching out" and have an upcoming show there in the spring of 2020.

I have been practicing art most of my life. I am a graduate from OCAD and have also obtained a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art History at the University of Toronto. This is my fourth year participating on the Norfolk Studio Tour. I am showing in an upcoming three-person exhibit "Convergence" at the Tillsonburg Station Arts Centre, March 2020. In 2019, "Synergy" was my first solo show at the Station Arts as well. I have also participated in a number of group exhibitions, including the Woodstock Art Gallery, the Arts Project Gallery in London, and the Hamilton Art Gallery, and have shown abroad; Chicago, USA and in the Baltics. I also have an upcoming solo show at the Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre in 2021.
